Accrington Flower Club was started in 1969. We are a small club but we are enthusiastic and very friendly.
There is a strong working committee and a wonderful programme of demonstrations is planned each year. We also take part in local church and Area festivals and promote flower arranging whenever we can.
Many of our members are keen gardeners and this is reflected in our name. Our programme always includes a gardening evening when we invite a speaker from a local nursery or garden centre and we have the opportunity to buy unusual plants. One year we had a fascinating and amusing talk on slugs! In addition to our demonstrations we make sure we have a number of outings each year. These are open to members' friends and to other clubs in the area and are very popular. Over the years we have visited Area festivals, flower shows, gardens and garden centres and other places of interest.
Highlights include the Wedgwood factory, the Settle Carlisle railway trip and visits to Highgrove and George Smith's garden in York. We visited the Castle Howard flower festival in June this year and in December we are travelling to Gawsworth Hall and Bents Garden Centre for our Yuletide outing. Workshops allow our members to learn new skills. This year we have been busy making felt pictures and also working with wool. We are planning a series of flower arranging workshops later in the year.
Our meetings are held at 7.30pm in Hippings Vale Community Centre, Harvey Street, Oswaldtwistle, BB5 3LT. Meetings are at 7.30 p.m. on the 4th Tuesday every month, except July and December, non-members are welcome to all of our meetings, and pay a small charge for demonstrations. .
